Last Saturday I was a judge at the Joyce Daze Wild Blackberry Pie Contest. This was the 28th year for the local festival and it was an honor to be a judge.
For the contest, there were 19 pies entered. Here’ s a photo of the proud winners.
I feel so lucky to have lived in Joyce at Blueberry Haven Farm which is just west of the little village for two years. In fact, that farm is where I made my first pies!
The Wild Blackberry Pie Contest is organized by Deb Moriarity, a down to earth woman who knows a thing or two about baking pie!
Deb and her stalwart crew baked 220 blackberry pies that were sold at the festival. Can you imagine making that many pies in a day?
If you travel this way, be sure to stop in at the Joyce General Store and say hello to Mary and Leonard who have run it for many years. It’s the local stop for mail, milk and all the local news.
