Home Again

Up the road again to San Francisco for our two last workshops on Day 13 and 15 before we were home again. We paid a visit to Farmer Al of Frog Hollow Farms at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market…

Robin, Duncan, Farmer Al (Frog Hollow Farm), and me. Farmer Al grows THE BEST fruit!

and then slipped off to dine al fresco with a view of the Bay Bridge before setting up for our workshop.

Breakfast with a view!

More beautiful pies were baked and new friends made. IMG_4638sfgradsweb

IMG_4638sfgrads2web My favorite synchronistic moment was when I was standing in the tower at the de Young Museum. I had been there exactly one year before with my dear friends Robin Ove of What About the Food?, and Ilva Beretta and Jamie Schler of Plated Stories. If you haven’t checked out these fabulous blogs, wait no longer as you won’t be disappointed.

Anyway, in April 2013 the four of us were in San Francisco for a food conference during which we snuck away to Golden Gate Park and the deYoung for an afternoon. We ALL wanted to see the “Girl with Pearl Earing” which was in the exhibit then. After we walked to the Haight and discovered that it was free ice cream day at Ben and Jerry’s.

Now fast forward one year, when Robin O. informed me that I was in the exact same place—the deYoung—on the exact same day—Free Ice Cream Day—and that we should get ourselves over to the corner of Haight & Ashbury posthaste! This is ONE day of the year that you can walk into the Ben & Jerry’s shop and come out with a sweet treat on the house!

How often does that happen? And especially during two separate visits to San Francisco? I’m thinking it must have something to do with the power of pie. What do you think?

After our last workshops were over, and we had packed up everything, said goodbyes and thankyous to our San Francisco hosts, and pointed the Piemobile’s nose north to Pie Cottage.

We stopped in Redding for an overnight, Portland to eat at the food cart, Carte Blanche, where the chef is one of Robin and Duncan’s friends, and Olympia on our way.

A yummy meal and beautiful presentation from Carte Blanche Food Cart in Portland.

There was a joyous reunion with sweet Gretapie when we picked her up at her B&B in Sequim, and then on to Pie Cottage jiggity jig!

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity Jig!

What a great journey it was but now that I’m home, I’m already looking forward to the next Pie À La Road adventure!
