Art of the Pie Austin Part 2

Day 3 Austin:

Yam and Jenny live in the Tarrytown neighborhood of Austin. It’s quiet but is centrally enough located that it’s easy to get to and from just about anywhere in the city. After getting Theo and Finn off to school for the day, I caught up on emails and then Yam and I headed out for a bit of sight-seeing.

When asked what I wanted to see, I told him, “Take me where you would take your kids.” I figure, kids enjoy fun spots and things to do, and so do I! Yam took me seriously and I had a heck of a good time!

We walked around the campus of UT (that’s University of Texas) and I saw some Texas sized dinosaur vertebrae that were set up as chairs…

I bet she knew a thing or three about making pies!

Then we met up with photographer Dennis Fagan for lunch at The Jalopy, another food trailer.

Jalopy is mainly a sandwich spot, but they were happy to adjust anything on the menu into a bowl as a salad for me.

Can’t wait for my next visit!

With guides like Dennis and Yam, I was totally into the incredible Austin food scene and I knew that every meal was going to be sensational!

Next we headed back to Tarrytown to take a look at the kitchen I would be holding the Sunday class in. Couldn’t believe it when I got there. I’ve never seen so much Carrara marble outside of the Vatican!

Then we were off on another adventure to find cheese and charcuterie. I spied this big fork on the side of the road as we drove and just had to stop and take a picture of it.

I was able to sneak in a yoga class and walked home (without losing my way) to Yam and Jenny’s for a taco dinner and evening with the kids.

Next: Day 4 and a visit to Bud Royer’s Round Top Cafe!
