A Good Day
Today was a good day. Art of the Pie made the big time in The Wall Street Journal with four recipes featured from the book. Go Pie! After that very happy moment I took my smile, a shovel and trowel and headed outside to finish planting bulbs in the new garden. I tucked them in here and there around the perimeter line of the fence both inside and out–yellow daffodils, pink tulips, and some anemone. All in all between the garlic that I put in on Thursday and flower bulbs today, it was close to 500 bulbs total. Not bad for a few hours of work of which I will see the results in the spring and summer. Whenever I plant, I have always had this little ritual of saying grow and prosper before covering the seed or bulb over with soil and then patting it down on top of them. Since they are going to sleep for a few months, I guess it is sort of like saying sweet dreams. Hopefully I’ll see something like this when they wake up!
Tonight really isn’t cold enough for a fire in the wood stove but after I finished the planting I brought in a few sticks of wood anyway and while supper was cooking I laid them into the firebox and set to light it. Now my tummy is full, the fire is crackling, and Sweet Gretapie and Mr Fez are all curled up while I type to you. I love this simple life with rituals I have practiced for decades.
Next week I will leave Pie Cottage and travel to Portland Oregon for a few days. I’ll be on KATU-TV on Wednesday in the afternoon, teach a class at Bob’s Red Mill on Thursday, and be back at the Bob’s Red Mill store on Friday to sign books. If you are in the area stop by. I’d love to meet you. Remember those baskets that I told you about earlier this week? Well, there are only 3 left!
Have a wonderful week my friends!
