Before I Leave
Just one more thing before I leave for camp. After yesterday’s debacle in the humus department I want to thank all of you who kindly suggested in comments and emails that I just buy canned beans. It takes only about $6 of dry beans to make about 3 quarts of humus and I know I could buy the cans, but it would be considerably more in price and then there are all those cans to recycle…yada yada yada. But, since I lost all the beans (but not my marbles) it’s kinda moot at this point.
And tomorrow my friend Emily Paster is celebrating the release of her first book Food Swap: Specialty Recipes for Bartering, Sharing & Giving! As Art of the Pie is nearing its publication date I can only imagine how excited Emily is right now.
Food swaps are an opportunity for home cooks who love to preserve, garden, and bake to barter their lovingly crafted goods with one another. No money changes hands, and everyone goes home with a generous assortment of hand-crafted edibles. I think her subject is timely and fits right in with my philosophy of making and sharing. If you are interested in finding out more about Emily, you can find her at her blog West of the Loop.
OK, I’m heading back to packing now. I wonder if I should take my marbles with me. 😉
