The Day After
Well, wasn’t that fun! Pie Cottage had a house full yesterday. My son and his girlfriend are a great team and yesterday was no exception. Between the three of us, a turkey, Brussel sprouts, delicata squash, cranberry sauce, green salad, and three pies (not four as I had planned)—Cranberry, Pecan, and a Tarte Tatin—graced a beautifully set table. We laughed and sang, told stories, took a walk…and all too soon it was time for some of the family to head home…with a care package that had plenty of leftovers. Now it’s the day after and I’m still basking in the glow of having family surround me.
My son will be at Pie Cottage for another few days. It’s so much fun having a steady stream of his old high school buddies popping in to say hello and enjoying some leftovers. I love hearing what they are up to and so proud of the fine men and women that they have become.
While pulling out my knitting today and some good books, Gretapie, Mr Fez, and I have had some snuggle time on the couch. The wind is howling outside and with the temperature dropping as I type, there’s even a prediction of an inch or two of snow. If the power goes out, my trusty wood stove is already warming the house.
I have some croissant dough resting for a Sunday morning feast. Fingers crossed that they will work out. Even though I know how to make pie…croissants? Well, that’s another thing all together. But, I’m keeping chill about it and I’ll report back, hopefully with a picture of some big, flakey, golden-brown beauties! And if not, well you can’t say I didn’t try. Right? Have a wonderful weekend my friends!
