Hap-Pie New Year

Hap-Pie New Year! I hope this is the best year yet for you and yours and one full of happiness, health, prosperity and pie.

I turned in the final manuscript for Art of the Pie on Monday to my editor. What an amazing feeling to press the send button after over a year of writing, editing, recipes, and photos. Speaking of which, I saw the final photos from Andrew Scrivani and they are incredible. He culled out the best of 4500 shots from 8 days of shooting both in New York and at Pie Cottage. What an experience that was!

Right now, I’m re-learning what it’s like to do something other than heading straight for my computer each morning to write and edit. Yesterday I did a pie-by with a pear-apple pie (just add a few pears into the filling), and then I attended a fruit tree pruning demonstration. I’m making lists of fruit trees to plant and seeds to start for the new garden. Everything will need to be able to go into a pie filling and since I make both savory and sweet pies, there will be a good variety of edibles right out my door.

Oh, and I’m hoping to have chickens too. When I was living in West Seattle a few years back, I inherited the owner’s three chickens. What amusingly wonderful birds they are. I loved the fresh eggs they supplied for custard pies and quiches.

I don’t think I showed you some of the photos of the incredible deck that my son built for me this fall. My old deck had reached the end of it’s useful life and after putting my foot through it a few times it was time to retire it. As you can see in the pics, Gretapie was overseeing the project from beginning to end. Now, safely walking out the doors to this beautiful space makes Pie Cottage feel huge!

My resolution this year is to be even happier than last year. That’s been my resolution for a number of years now and I become happier with each passing year.

My motto this year is Choose Love, Not Fear. Now, I’m off to the kitchen to make another pie to give away and hopefully make someone’s day a little brighter. 🙂

Life is good, my friends!

I love your motto – I have one too that I found on a Life is Good Shirt that I just purchased in Fort Lauderdale – Make Pie, Not War!

Kate – Happy New Year to you! I am so excited about your upcoming book. One of my life goals (resolution for life not necessarily 2016) is to make it out there to one of your pie retreats. Wishing you all the best,
