Happy Summer

Happy Summer

Today’s the day! It’s Summertime! I am already rewriting the words to “Suppertime”, the song that Snoopy sings in the musical You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown. Do you remember that fun show based on the Peanuts cartoon strip?

It’s Summertime.
Yeah, it’s Summertime.
Oh, it’s Sum-Sum Summertime very best time of year.

I hope you will be able to enjoy some summertime fun in your own gardens this season. If you don’t have one, consider joining or volunteering in a community garden. When I lived in Seattle I spent many a happy Saturday turning compost and sharing garden tips at one of the P-Patch gardens there. You’ll make lots of friends as well as enjoying a cornucopia of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Since it is the first day of the season, I thought it a good day to share with you some pictures of how the Pie Cottage garden is coming along. You may remember that it started out as a blank canvas after I bought and tore down the house next door two years ago. The neighborhood has really changed during that time. Instead of being united in fear we are united in friendship. Summer time brings flowers, fruits, vegetables, and potlucks. We’ll be having our share of them here.  Enjoy these photos. I’ve included a few with some of our beneficial pollinators and predators, too.

Thank you! And thanks for the reminder to have some tea sweetened with some honey from the local bees!

Just a follow up on the blog a few days ago: My husband cut off two tines on the really useless pastry blender and it now works like a charm. Many thanks to whoever came up with this splendid trick!
