In a Clever Spot

In a Clever Spot

Have you ever said that? Have you ever said that right after you have put something down, and then you turn around and can’t find it anywhere?

Oh, it must be in a clever spot.

So many times it is the important things I use daily that gravitate so easily to that clever spot…or spots as it may be.

It’s a short list.

  • Glasses
  • Phone
  • Keys

Those are the big three for me.

Maybe it’s because I have lots of other things on my mind, but during this month I have:

  • Lost 2 pairs of glasses…in the same day! Found one and promptly lost that pair again an hour later. Both had around the neck lanyards on them too which don’t do too much good when you take the entire unit off–glasses and lanyard–and place it down. Current Status: 2 newest pairs in clever spots, 2 oldest pairs in the dresser drawer
  • My phone…a daily occurence. Thank goodness for those Find My Phone apps. Current Status: Online and charging
  • My keys…since I’m home most all of the time and not driving much of anywhere now, having them doesn’t seem so crucial and I do have spares. Current Status: On the keyhook by the door

I do know that eventually my glasses will turn up because it’s just me here. GP has not magically grown opposable thumbs overnight to take delight in exercising new found digits in games of hide and seek. When I do ask her, “Where are my glasses?…my phone?…my keys?,” she happily wags her tail but gives me nary a clue. No, it’s not her.

I do laugh at all of this because if I did have my glasses, I just might be able to clearly see where I actually put them down in the first place. Instead I retrace my steps while pondering aloud–I walked in here and did such and such, and then headed over there and did such and such–and so on.

I’m sure everything will be waiting for me in all those clever spots I placed them, but since I don’t have them….my specs that is…life really does have some lovely soft edges.

Have a wonderful week my friends.

Love,
Kate

P.S. In case you think I might be losing my marbles, here they are.

Don’t ever lose your marbles.

I intend to tell my 90 year old mom what you’ve said. She’s always worrying that she’s “losing it”, meaning her mind, when she loses items around her small apartment. “I just set them down! How can they grow legs and walk??” I keep telling her EVERYONE does that, regardless of age. Maybe she’ll believe me now? Naaaah….

Oh look what we have to look forward to when we get older… Walking glasses, keys, and phones!

I always figure I put them in a safe place. Including safe from me.

I’ve done the same. I’ve left my phone in the car or under something on the kitchen counter. I try to put my keys away but that’s not always done. Thankfully my car cannot be locked if you leave the keys inside. I have my glasses on a lanyard which works fine unless I remove them to do laundry. Then I have to retrace steps. I always keep my older pairs of glasses in my nightstand for just this sort of thing.

I know I’m not alone when I walk into a room to do or get something and can’t remember what that was. I then end up doing something else while I’m in there. We have a cartoon on our refrigerator of this guy talking to his wife with a T-shirt on that says “What did I come in here for”. He tells her that it was a gift for getting an AARP membership.

    What can you say…

Know exactly what that is like ! It is so frustrating ! Check the refrigerator! Found my lost hairbrush in there once.
Hoping for recovery efforts to kick in for you soon !

Loved the photo of your marbles!! I have lost mine, but luckily found them again. When cleaning out my late grandmother’s home, I packed up a lovely clear glass bowl containing several dozen green and clear glass marbles, which then sat on a bookshelf in my home. I never really looked at them much until one day I realized they were no longer in the bowl. Good grief! Did they magically disappear? I couldn’t imagine what had happened. I searched throughout my house until out of the corner of my eye I saw my cat, Scout, jump up onto a lamp table. Then it dawned on me – at some point I had moved the marbles from the bowl to the bottom of a porcelain Chinese vase, weighting it down so that it wouldn’t topple when Scout jumped on the table!!! I had come so close to losing my marbles…….lol

I keep losing my purse! So I keep saying, “It has to be inside the house somewhere since I haven’t gone anywhere with it since early March.” I always knew where my purse was before this. But for some reason I keep putting it in “clever places.” Losing one’s mind is not a bad thing. I’ve never had any marbles.

I chuckled all the way through this. Pretty remarkable how so many of our experiences are the same at this point.

I looked all over for my readers, my kids found them on top of my head. Now why didn’t I think of that?

I didn’t lose my marbles, they were stolen! I had placed a shallow dish with marbles in my front garden and filled it with water so the bees and small birds could stand on the marbles and drink the water. Soon, all the marbles started disappearing and we discovered it was our resident squirrels and crows that were taking them! That was a few years ago and we are still finding marbles scattered here and there throughout our property. (Note: We now use rocks, not marbles, in the “bee bath.” Rocks are less attractive and harder for critters to steal!)

This kinda reminds me of the packrat that took up residence in The Tree House I lived in. (It was a house hung on the side of a mountain on 28 poles.) Shiny things, well many things, were moved here and there. The next owner found a few things in a crawl space after I moved out.
