I’ve always liked to look up at clouds and sky. When I do, you’ll usually hear me say, “Nice Sky.” The skies this week at Pie Cottage have been nothing short of exceptional. How often can one open the front door and see this kind of light as the sun sinks in the west…
and just a few hours later this!
Yup, the Aurora Borealis was out in all its glory looking north from Pie Cottage in the wee hours this Sunday past. How lucky I am to live on the edge of one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Do you know about my sweet town? It is a little off the beaten track as they say. I kind of like that. Out here on the edge of the upper left hand corner of the continental United States, there are beautiful mountains, The Olympics, just to the south of me. I look right out on them as you can see in the first picture; and, to the north of me is water, the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Hop on the ferry just down the hill from me, and you are on your way to Canada! I see Victoria BC right from my back deck.
Next week, I’ll be at Pie Camp on Whidbey Island and right now I’m busy packing up pastry cloths, aprons, measuring equipment, rolling pins, and all the ingredients that will make our pies. I’ll miss my sweet Gretapie and Mr Fez greatly, but Pie Cottage and both of them will be in the best of hands, and I will concentrate on what I love to do most…and that of course is to teach PIE!
