Pie A La Road East Coast
I’m just about the step out the door for all points East. Tomorrow morning I take the non-stop from Seattle to Baltimore where I will be met by a pie camp grad, Andy, also known as Dog Mama. She will be picking me up for ten days of pie making and baking: Pie A La Road—East Coast edition.
I’ve taught on the East Coast before thanks to friend and pie sister, Catherine Gewertz (Curvy Mama) who always so graciously and generously opens her home and heart to me in Bethesda. But, this trip I’ll be teaching at Dog Mama’s home in Annapolis and then up to New York City where I will be teaching for the very first time!
You may wonder, how the heck to I travel with all my gear. Sometimes I wonder the same thing myself and as I was packing yesterday I was having some “grrrrrr this has got to fit” moments. I had bought a set of suitcases…on sale, too…a big one and little one. Yup, I got everything inside the big one….bowls, pastry cloths, measuring cups and spoons, aprons, and on and on…
I wanted no surprises at the airport so I headed over to Omma’s house to borrow her scale, and have a catch up chat. Everything was fine until I went to weigh it. I had a feeling when I hoisted the packed bag off the bed that I was in trouble. Uh oh. It was definitely over the 50 pounds that is Alaska Airlines’ max. And, this before I had packed my clothes. What to do? What to do?
I decided to repack in two small suitcases…one for pie gear, and one for me. I slipped each of the smaller travel bags onto the scale and YES…each of them is well under the limit. So, it’s all things go.
I slept with my little pink notebook on my bedside table so I could jot any last minute to-do’s down. I always seem to think of things in the middle of the night and this time I was darned will sure I was going to remember them this morning.
All packed and ready but at the last minute FedEx delivered some beautiful full color brochures from Paws Up for Upper Crust for me to share on the journey! You can see the brochure here. So, I’ve tucked those in as well.
I’ll be spending the night in Seattle and then heading to SeaTac early morning so over and out until I check in from Annapolis.
