Potholders or Oven Mitts
I find oven mitts to be rather clunky and have dropped a pie or two, or even tipped the pan enough to spill a hot filling onto the oven floor, when removing one from the oven. And potholders? I have a number of rack burns on my hands and arms from moving pies around during a bake or getting them out of the oven when using them. This summer, I found myself re-eavluating the potholders or oven mitts dilemma when it was solved during a workshop I taught in Chicago, at the home of Teri Turner of No Crumbs Left.
I had never seen these red oven gloves by Trudeau before the workshop at Teri’s, but after using them, I liked them so much that my gracious host sent me home to Pie Cottage with a brand new pair of my own.
They are really comfortable, flame resistant, have a lot of dexterity, and also what the manufacturer calls an “anti-slip silicone grip.” Burns from hot pies, fillings, and racks may be a thing of the past for me now.
I like oven mitts, though my current mitts are cheap and somehow let the heat right on through. I also use a thick kitchen towel and like it because it wraps around the pan/dish and protects my lower arms.
We discovered these a long, long time ago and gave them away as Christmas gifts to friends and family… we called them Ove Gloves.. like our last name 🙂
Oh, how I would have loved to have had a pair of these years ago, Robin!
Totally cool. Who is the manufacturer of these oven gloves? Where are they sold?
By the way, really enjoy watching your ditch project. And feeding the “help” has ALWAYS been my motto! MJD
The manufacturer is “Trudeau.” If you click this link, you’ll be able to buy them through my Amazon store and I will get a big 5 cents! In fact, anything that you but from Amazon I’ll get a tiny commission on if you first go through my website store to browse and order. Every little bit helps! 😉 And here is a link to some info about the Trudeau company.
