You would think I would have developed a better relationship with “the dishes” than I have. Here they are in all their messy glory, staring at me. I know…it could be worse. There could be even more!
Last night they did duty when I set the table for a wonderful dinner with a friend from elementary school. Sue and I spent K-6 together at Peabody School in Santa Barbara, and now she and her hubby were visiting me at Pie Cottage! We ate, reminisced, laughed and laughed, and honestly could have kept right on all night long.
After they left, I looked at the kitchen and said, “Oh, I’ll get right on to cleaning up all that first thing in the morning.” I had already done three cleanups yesterday, I just couldn’t face them last night, so I headed off for a date with my pillow.
And, this morning they were still there. I did everything in my power to avoid them; pushing them aside a bit to make a small space in order to brew up a mug of coffee which I then took out onto the deck with my current book. Just a chapter and then I’ll do them. Really I will!
Well, maybe a few emails first…and, social media. I should really check that, too. And oh, how about a quick walk across the street to check in with my best friend, Nan.
You already know what was there when I came back. Right?
I so wish I had followed the good habit of my friend Andrew who cleans up his kitchen and studio at the end of each and every work day, “so we can start fresh in the morning”, is how he puts it.
Oh, Andrew. When will I learn. When will I EVER learn.
12:30PM Update:
I turned on some Motown, cranked it up. and danced and sang my way through it all. That wasn’t so hard after all. 😉
I feel your pain! With 3 grandkids in the house now I have made a habit of cleaning everything up each night. Each morning I have 4 cats to feed and a job to go to, so it keeps me sane! Thanks for sharing this! Sometimes I can’t bring myself to do it either!
I feel better now that I’ve done them, Janice.
