Traveling with Pie

Traveling with Pie Tips: Yes, I have travelled successfully domestically with pies on planes. I use a box about the size of the Express Mail boxes that the post office has. I put the pie in with some egg cartons around it to keep it from moving too much. Leave it unsealed until you get all the way through TSA. Then seal it up and place it on the floor under the seat in front of you. Pies that have too much slosh and liquid probably won’t make it through so use enough thickener to avoid disappointment. Lattice crust allows agents to see inside, too. If they say sorry, (which I’ve never had happen) pull out some forks and share it with those around you. You’re certain to make some new friends!
Here’s a link to the TSA website for their official word.
