Working Link and Labor Day Thoughts
Yesterday, when I sent the link for the article on Why American’s Love Their Apple Pie, I didn’t hyperlink it for you, so here is the working link.
Why Americans Love Their Apple Pie.
I do very much want to thank Kristen for kindly letting me know that this weekend is Labor Day, and not Memorial Day, as I hastily typed in yesterday’s post. I did update the post with the correct holiday, Kristen.
Here’s my recipe for the Apple Pie below, too.
Pies and Beach Balls
Labor Day weekend is a great reason to make pie. It’s also a great excuse for me to take a break for sitting on my little perch, type type typing away at the manuscript for Book Three. It’s coming along, and I am now at that stage where most all recipes (there are a few yet to come) are finished, and I’m concentrating on the prose of the book. There’s lots I have to say, so when I got the spinning beach ball while typing a few minutes ago, I had to remind myself to keep breathing so as not to go into that place where you think over a year’s work has disappeared in a beach ball nano moment. Let’s keep those beach balls where they belong this weekend…at the beach..or the lake…or even the wading pool. Just not on my computer.
Three Books in Four Years
After saying a few words of encouragement to myself (yes, I am backed up in more than one place), and the computer which is now gallantly slogging away on a third book in four years (Good job! You can do it!), I got up, walked next door to where my son is remodeling his house (Pie Cottage 2) and helped peel off some funky 1960’s era mustard colored wallpaper. I think the color scheme at one time there had avocado green, too. It was a good break.
When I returned, the beach ball was still spinning. I did a force quit, and took another deep breath. Thank goodness, the manuscript reappeared, only missing about the last 15 minutes of typing I had done, and some that I can easily recreate. But, for the rest of today, I have some perfectly ripe peaches, and I know just where they are going.
Happy Labor Day Weekend My Friends!
P.S. Here’s the recipe for the Peach Pie.

Happy Labor Day Weekend! I had just baked your apple pie for a picnic tomorrow, but when the neighbor kids came off the bus to tell me of their first week of school, they eyed the picnic pie. How does one refuse the cutest first and third graders on the block! Looks like I’ll be up early tomorrow making another picnic pie!
May all the beach balls spend their time where they belong…at picnics and on the beach. Can’t wait for your next book! On my bucket list..to get from Ohio to a Pie Camp!
Hope you can enjoy the weekend and not work too hard.
It wouldn’t surprise me if you have given them a life long memory, Mary. I worthy reason to make another pie tomorrow.
I’m heading out to hear a chamber music concert tonight. 🙂
Your peach pie recipe is the best I have ever tasted-the last one I made was for me. It took a week, but I ate the whole thing!
Thank you so much, Susan! 🥧🍑
Oh, how I wish is was Memorial Day weekend! We could use a redo on summer in the Northwest! Thanks for the Peach Pie recipe, is perfect for the late season peaches.
You are so welcome, Stephanie. Pie On!
Kate, I too LOVE your blog and your cookbooks! The article about pies was very interesting and provocative. What would the woman have been pouring in the funnels to fill the pies??? And why? Any idea?
Thank you, Sandy! I’m not sure what they are pouring in there.
